Cortaid Top Lotion

This product is outstanding. I was purchasing it from drugstores previously but it seems like they stopped carrying it. I can say from a lot of experience that the other cortisone products are NOT on the same level.
I have skin issues on my forehead near my hairline when I sunburn, and dry skin around my nose occasionally. I use Cortaid overnight and it goes away typically by the next morning. I purchase four tubes at a time because co-workers of mine use it on dry skin and bug bites.
I cannot stress the quality of this product enough.
Aveeno Anti-Itch Cream
I discovered this product two winters ago when I was experiencing a particularly bad eczema outbreak on my hands and wrists. My dog’s dry skin went red with scratching, itchy, dry and irritated to the point where the only thing I could do to keep from itching was to tie ice packs on it to numb them completely. One particularly cold night I was driving home and I could feel my hands starting to burn and itch underneath my winter gloves. It got so bad that I had to pull over and put on some lotion, which, as usual, did little to remedy the situation. So I stopped at a store hoping to find something that worked and saw Aveeno’s Eczema Therapy lotion.
I was skeptical because I’d tried other lotions, including over-the-counter ones recommended by medical professionals and even a bottle of lotion that came with my steroid prescription, but experienced little to no clinical benefit (the one that came with my steroid prescription actually made my hands sting and burn even more). I was wary of spending another $12+ on a lotion that turned out to be greasy and ineffective.
But Aveeno freakin’ worked!!! My eczema tends to flare during the winter, when my hands are exposed to drastic temperature changes and when I wash my hands too much. As I’m a hopeless germaphobe living in Cleveland, this used to mean that my hands were raw 6 months out of the year. After just a few weeks of using Aveeno, my hands healed completely. Besides whatever specific eczema-soothing ingredients it contains, the reason I think this product works so well is that it provides a good protective barrier for your skin.
If I wash my hands within an hour of applying it, I can still feel that the lotion is on there even after I’ve washed and dried them. But unlike some other lotions recommended for eczema that I’ve tried, this one absorbs easily and is not at all greasy. It also doesn’t have a strong smell – medicinal or otherwise. I use it religiously on my hands year round and as an all over body lotion in the winter or if I’ve noticed my skin feeling particularly dry and/or itchy.
I may sound a bit overenthusiastic (and no, I don’t work for Aveeno), but I’m just happy that I don’t have to strap ice packs to my hands anymore or feel embarrassed because people are eyeballing my hands while talking to me. If your eczema is driving you nuts, I’d say give it a try.
Pro Pet Works Natural Oatmeal Dog Shampoo

A friend of mine asked me to check this shampoo out for him and give a review. I’m a professional pet groomer so pet shampoo is serious business for me. I really like this shampoo! I bathed several dogs and my cat with it. First thing I noticed was the smell. It’s very fruity and while it’s not my favorite scent, it is pleasant. Even better is that the smell that stays on the dog after drying is very light even though the smell while lathering up is strong.
Speaking of lathering, this stuff gives massive amounts of suds! My issue with a lot of shampoos that I get that aren’t professional grade is that they’re very dilute. If I’m bathing dogs for a living, I need a shampoo that I can either dilute or can use a small amount of. A little bit of this shampoo goes a long way!
This shampoo did a great job getting my dogs and cat clean. I used it on a black lab and the coat was very nice and glossy. I also found that this shampoo did a good job helping me get undercoat out in the tub. The key is to wet the dog and do a light shampooing, rinse that shampoo (you don’t have to get it all out) then shampoo the dog again and really work it down to the skin. If you’re treating a skin condition, let it sit for at least 5 minutes. The reason for the two shampoos is that the first one breaks the oil the dog or cat naturally has while the second shampoo is able to penetrate the coat more deeply and get to the skin. If you’re only shampooing your dog once, you’re not getting your dog nearly as clean as you could be.
I like the results for my cat as well. She’s 16 and has dandruff from not grooming herself as much as she used to. This product cleansed and conditioned her coat without leaving her greasy looking. The smell didn’t bother her at all. The rich lather also helped me to release a bunch of coat and the finish was soft and clean.
I’ll be keeping this shampoo on hand and will be trying it out on any dogs I see with sensitive skin or hot spots. All in all, I think this is a great shampoo and you’ll get a lot of uses out of it which makes it quite economical.
